AFFAIR ON ‘DAWSON’S CREEK’ TOOK AN UN-LETOURNEAU TURN (Television)
A sexual relationship between a 15-year-old and his 36-year-old teacher on the WB series “Dawson’s Creek” has ended with virtually no similarity to the outcome in the celebrated Mary Letourneau case.
In Tuesday’s episode, Tamara Jacobs (Leann Hunley) appeared before the school board after rumors of her affair with Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) surfaced. Before Jacobs could testify, Witter said the rumors were merely the result of his overactive imagination and that no relationship existed beyond that of a student fantasizing about his teacher. With her career preserved by Witter’s gallant lie, Jacobs nobly resigned her position and left town.
In the Letourneau case, a 13-year-old boy in the Highline School District had a sexual relationship with his sixth-grade teacher and fathered a child with her.
Letourneau was convicted of raping the boy and received a suspended sentence, but she was arrested again earlier this month after she was caught with the boy in her car and was imprisoned for 7 1/2 years.
